Is Your Thyroid Affecting Your Health?

Why Thyroid Testing Matters More Than You Think

Your thyroid might be small, but it has a powerful impact on your overall health. Located at the base of your neck, this butterfly-shaped gland helps regulate your metabolism, energy levels, mood, weight, and even heart function.

When your thyroid is not working properly, it can lead to a wide range of symptoms — many of which are easy to dismiss as stress or fatigue. That’s why thyroid blood testing is such an important step in maintaining your well-being.

What Does the Thyroid Do?

Your thyroid produces hormones (T3 and T4) that control how your body uses energy. It communicates with your brain and other organs to keep everything running smoothly — from your digestion and heart rate to your skin and sleep patterns.

Signs of a Thyroid Imbalance

If your thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism), you may experience a range of symptoms:

Common signs of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism):

  • Fatigue and sluggishness
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Feeling cold often
  • Constipation
  • Depression or brain fog
  • Dry skin or thinning hair

Common signs of an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism):

  • Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Feeling hot or sweaty
  • Irritability or anxiety
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Muscle weakness or tremors

These symptoms can develop slowly and be mistaken for other conditions, which is why testing is so important.

What is a Thyroid Function Test?

A thyroid function test is a simple blood test that measures how well your thyroid is working. At Care Lab, we check your levels of:

  • TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone) – tells your thyroid to produce more hormones
  • Free T3 and T4 – the main hormones produced by your thyroid
  • Thyroid antibodies (if needed) – to check for autoimmune thyroid conditions like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease

Why Test Your Thyroid?

You should consider thyroid testing if:

  • You have any of the symptoms listed above
  • You have a family history of thyroid disease
  • You are over 35 or pregnant
  • You’re experiencing irregular periods or fertility challenges
  • You’re managing another chronic condition, like diabetes or PCOS

Early detection and proper diagnosis can help you get the treatment you need — and feel better, faster.

Understanding DNA relationship Testing: A Look at Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Testing. This test involves analyzing genetic material to establish biological relationships. In the context of paternity, it can confirm whether a man is the biological father of a child. Traditionally, paternity tests required samples from both the child and the alleged father, usually collected after birth. However, non-invasive prenatal paternity testing allows for the collection of DNA from a pregnant woman’s blood, enabling testing as early as the 9th week of pregnancy.
